Hello all, I'm Mike. Been scouting a couple of fairly local places out online and came across TMX. Looks like a load of fun, especially the trails (nice video). I'm nearing 40, and been riding street bikes for 25+ years. Last rode a dirtbike about 20 years ago. Street has been rough on me. Too many careless folks out there, cellphones (though not a problem 20 yrs ago) and student drivers. I've never had a streetbike that I didn't go to the hospital because of...
Got the bug again, and little lady said dirt only now. Got a 2007 yz250f, 3 months used, mint. Been buying all the protective gear (should look like Robocop) and hope to visit the park next week sometime. I remember when "Protective Gear" was long pants and tennis shoes !!
My skill as a street rider was better than most, and I have a natural ability to drive just about anything. However, dirtbike riding looks like it will require me to gain skills I've never had to do before. Gonna take it slow, and take hint/tips from what I see other riders doing and talking about. Don't have a need personally to get 50 feet through the air, but would eventually like to get both tires off the ground at the same time
If there is anyone out there that feels they are in the same position/skill level and you would like someone to ride with, help pick the bike up off you, stop the bleeding, etc. I would like to meet up with you there at some point.
Have a great weekend.

DrMike, we have a ton of folks that I could hook you up with to get into the swing of things. We have a wonderful crowd of folks that come out to ride. Make sure to check in with Diana, the track manager.
Have a good one... _________________ TMX Staff |

Thanks for the info and reply. I will make sure to see Diana when I come out. Just waiting on the last of the gear to arrive, and looking forward to getting it all dirty. _________________ If anything I've said has offended you, not only will I apologize, but I'll deny I even said it in the first place !!! |

So DrMike, how has it gone so far?
I heard about TMX Park and found this forum online. It seems like the owners are really trying to make everyone happy but posts are few on the forum so far.
I'm somewhat similar to you but totally dirt riding experience, rode/raced motocross for many years but stopped around 2000/01. I have no desire to break any more bones (breaking them never hurt for me, getting them fixed did ) but I still like to go fast, my version of fast anyway.
Anyway, I'm looking at some bikes now and think I have a deal worked out, going to check it out tomorrow in person.
If it works out TMX sounds like just what I want, MX track with some decent trails, and thursday would be great as I work at Alliance airport and could scoot out there for some riding after work once a week.
One thing I'm wondering about, is there a safe area for my boys (6 and 10 years old) to ride 4 wheelers on? I bought them a couple of these chinese 4 wheeler knock off's, they just like to cruise an open area so far, like a short circle track with no big guy's on at the same time.
I'll look around the forum some more before I post again but hope to check the park out in person soon... |

If we may jump in...our forum posts have been very inconsistant. It seems most folks have made the mxcrazy and txmotocross forum their choice of posting so we have made many of the discussion talks on those forums and our seems to get neglected at times. It goes in spurts.
The kiddos are allowed to ride their small 4 wheelers if they are just learning to ride on the Pee Wee track to where they can get involved in riding with kids their age. We don't allow them on the large track though.
Feel free to come out and check it out if you like even if you don't ride that day. We have tons of folks come each week to scan out the place. We would love to have ya.
Take care and glad to have your interest. _________________ TMX Staff |

I hadn't heard of those forums so I'll check them out. One forum that I do belong to is TON (Texas Off-Road Network).

You should definitely get in touch with their administrators and get a section for your place on their MotoCross Park section. They have close to 14,000 members. |

Yes, we have posted on their quite a bit through the TORN and TORO organizations, but since our trails are not currently open we have not gone on their lately. We are trying to get them reopened.
Thanks for the input though and please keep us in the loop for any other things to market the facility. _________________ TMX Staff |

DrMike, I'll be 61 in November and started riding for the first time ever last summer on a CRF250. Obviously, a rank beginner back then and not willing to push my learning process to the point where I take unnecessary chances.
I have no comparisons of other tracks to offer because I've only ridden at TMX. I would say that the track tries hard to maintain a family atmosphere. I would be interested in others offering comparisons to other tracks.
As I've gotten a little faster, get some occasional air and ride a burm now and then, I don't feel like I'm a moving obstacle on the course anymore. That said, I've found that the faster riders are patient and look for the appropriate places to pass and don't put undo pressure on you waiting for the pass.
I would recommend that you get out early though as the track starts to get pretty busy after noon. |
